About the Presenter
Rhys Phillips is an award winning radio presenter and research engineer.
By day, Rhys works with the Lightning, Electrostatics & EMH Group at EADS UK. In April 2010, Rhys won the Western Aerospace Centre Competition for his work with EADS on Electrostatic Discharge in Carbon-fibre Composite Aircraft Structures.
Outside of work, Rhys is the presenter of Pythagoras’ Trousers. However this isn’t his first time on the air! Between 2006 and 2008, Rhys presented a range of programmes on Cardiff University’s student radio station, Xpress Radio. These included a jazz show featuring live studio sessions and interviews with big names such as Courtney Pine & Humphrey Lyttelton and a jazz documentary series where he profiled musicians such as Miles Davies & Glenn Miller.
In May 2008, Radio 4′s Paddy O’Connell awarded Best Speech Show to Beat It!, a music quiz devised, written and presented by Rhys. Rhys has also presented mainstream music shows, covered live events, produced a variety of podcasts and made contributions to Feedback on BBC Radio 4 and Serious About Comedy on BBC Radio 7.
Since the launch of Pythagoras’ Trousers, Rhys has added several other strings to his Radio Cardiff bow, presenting Jazz Special on Sunday evenings, the Monday Breakfast Show and reading the news every Saturday.
When he’s not at work or on the air, Rhys can be found leading jazz ensemble Imperfect Tenth which he formed in 2006 or playing with one of several other music ensembles. To find out more about Rhys, please visit his website.
